The Beverly Hills High School Softball Team held its annual senior day earlier this month when it played its last home game of the season against Santa Monica High.
Before the game, Justine Elitzur, Maytal Sarafian and Lena Shapiro were honored.
While Santa Monica remained undefeated in Ocean League play, the three seniors made large contributions to the Beverly Hills effort. Justine made several put outs, and Maytal caught 2 hard line drives at short. Lena Shapiro, who has pitched every inning for Beverly this year, got one of Beverly’s two hits when in her last at bat she hit a home run down the left field line.
Justine plans to attend UCLA in the fall, and Maytal will be attending Chapman University. Lena is going to play softball for Brandeis University.
While at Beverly, Lena set the records for most triples in a season and a career. Her sister, Assistant Coach Leah Shapiro will graduate Phi Beta Kappa from Brandeis later this month and will start medical school in the summer. She set the career batting average record at Beverly, and she helped the softball team at Brandeis win an Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship in 2015.
