Perched on the edge of West Hollywood, just adjacent to Beverly Hills, the chic Italian eatery RivaBella is arguably one of the region’s best new restaurants. With the kitchen now helmed by Michelin-star Executive Chef Luigi Fineo, who boasts time with the French Laundry, Drago and Bouchon, to name a few, the idyllic RivaBella offers guests exquisite fare in an open air patio where ambiance rivals only the food.
The menu is strong on house-made pastas and the night the Courier stops in for dinner, black truffles from Australia dominate the specials. The wagyu starter is melt-in-your-mouth delicious with a buttery texture that mingles with the truffle dusting. A white pizza of buffalo mozzarella upon which truffles are generously shaved tableside provides the perfect accompaniment to peruse the menu while savoring the superb flavors atop the thin crust slices.
Among Fineo’s most revered dishes is a porcini risotto, an extravagant dish made with aged rice and finished tableside with 24-month aged parmigiano reggiano. Truffles are an optional add-on, but really, who can resist? The combination is stunning, with the truffles augmenting the risotto’s rich flavor.
An extensive wine list guarantees that even the most discerning oenophile will find something to smile about.
For dessert, there’s the must-try liquid nitrogen ice cream, which is prepared tableside and tastes akin to cake batter. Once the smoke clears from the preparation, options to attire the creamy concoction include caramel, chocolate and strawberries, in addition to other “sundae” accoutrement.
