Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan has won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary, it was announced Monday.
According to the Pulitzer website, Noonan won for “rising to the moment with beautifully rendered columns that connected readers to the shared virtues of Americans during one of the nation’s most divisive political campaigns.”
The majority of Noonan’s work over the last year focused on Donald Trump’s rise to the presidency in an ever-changing Republican party, while providing blunt criticism of the media’s coverage of his political ascent.
Noonan has authored nine books on American politics and culture and is a former speechwriter for President Ronald Reagan, and is known for crafting the speech Reagan delivered in the immediate aftermath of the 1986 space shuttle Challenger explosion.
