In a 5-4 vote, the controversial housing densification bill SB827 proposed by Northern California State Sen. Scott Wiener has become stalled in the Housing Committee, killing it for this year, but leaving it open for another try in 2019. The bill that would legislate statewide densification around “transit corridors” including bus stops, overriding local density and height ordinances and allowing apartments and condos of up to five stories within half mile in areas currently zoned for single-family dwellings. The bill also eliminated parking requirements.
