Hara & Co. Makes Its Easy To Find That Luxury Item Mom Deserves
Hara & Co. has opened its first U.S. store, on Beverly Dr., buying, selling and trading pre-owned items including high-end handbags, watches and jewelry.
Open only three weeks, the shop’s shelves are filled with designer-name purses by Chanel and Hermes, Louis Vuitton handbags, luggage and wallets; necklaces and rings by Cartier, Tiffany, Bulgari and David Webb; watches by Rolex, Cartier, Breitling, Patek Philippe and Pannerai, and much more.
For Mother’s Day, through May 11, the store is offering shoppers $100 discount coupons to use toward the purchase of $1,500 or more, through June 30.*
The company was founded in 1954 when Sumiko Hara, mother of the current CEO, Yukio Hara, opened a pawn shop in the WWII-devastated, but recovering Yokohama, Japan.
Over the decades the company became the trusted source of authentic high-end accessories, and Mr. Hara is a founding member of Japan’s Anti Trading Fakes Association (currently a chairman), created to combat the trafficking of fake merchandise among pawn brokers.
At last month’s opening of the BH boutique, Hara said, “as an ardent supporter against the production of fake purses and watches, I want to make sure all the pre-owned handbags and watches we buy are the real things. Everything we sell is guaranteed to be 100-percent authentic and all items come with 100-percent money-back guarantee.”
What sets Hara & Co. apart is its appraisers and staff with years of experience with high-end items.
A luxury expert and long-time independent luxury dealer Wesley Hatakeyama is general manager; and assistant manger Ritsuko Wakamatsu spent 10 years with Tiffany and De Beers.
When clients bring an item in, an expert appraiser inspects the merchandise. Only after a rigorous inspection does the product get approval and listed in the online shop or sold in the store.
After authentication, pieces are polished and cleaned by a skilled associate. Watches are serviced by the original manufacturer or by an approved technician.
Clients may bring their pieces to the store for an appraisal from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Or they can call for an appointment to assure complete privacy and confidentiality.
If clients accept the appraised price, Hara & Co. pays cash or check on the spot.
The goal at Hara & Co. is for customers to have the best shopping experience; whether they’re just browsing, have items to sell, are interested in specific pieces or have special requests.
*When visiting the store from May 1-11, customers receive a coupon that can be used until June 30, 2013. For in-store purchases only and cannot be combined with any other offers or discounts. Not applicable to past online, ebay or in-store purchases.
