Over 500 women descended on the home of Lili and Jon Bosse today to launch Visionary Women, a book by local resident Angella M. Nazarian, co-founder with Bosse of Visionary Women, a group dedicated to enhancing and empowering women.

The event coincided with Lili Bosse’s birthday, which catapulted the affair into the spheres.

Her home spiced with floral arrangements from Sonny Alexander, was overflowing with feminine energy and delicious offerings from Beverly Hills’ favorite, Spago.

The book is the story of 20 innovative and forward-thinking women who have actualized their dreams to make life better, including such iconic women as Malala Yousafzai, the youngest Nobel Prize laureate and the subject of the newly released Malala chronicling her ordeal being shot in the head in her native Pakistan because she went to school. Today, Malala has a global network supporting girls’ right to an education from Pakistan to Nigeria and Boko Harem.

Change is not an accident, says Nazarian. It comes from the hearts and sweat of those who take the risk, who make the effort. All of us are able, all of us can contribute. And women hold a very special place in making change happen. She offers examples.

Other portraits include dancer Carmen Amaya, swimmer Diana Nyad who broke the world’s record at age 64; Doris Lessing, still writing into her nineties; and Miuccia Prada, still designing.

The stories are written to inspire women of all ages and nationalities to make their dreams reality, to do the impossible and, yes, to change the world.

Author and speaker Angella Nazarian is the author of Life as a Visitor and Pioneers of the Possible. Keynote speaker at the YPO-WPO Global Leadership Conference in Los Angeles and the YPO women’s Lean In Conference in Miami, she was a professor of psychology at Mt. St. Mary’s College, University of Long Beach, and Los Angeles Valley College for 11 years.

Among the guests were Cultural Heritage Commissioner Maralee Beck, School Board candidate Isabelle Hacker, Human Relations Commissioner Annette Saleh, Recreation and Parks Commission Chair Simone Friedman and Commissioner Susan Gersh, Planning Commissioner Lori Gordon and President of the Amanda Foundation Teri Austin.

Guests sang a rousing version of “Happy Birthday” over an enormous birthday cake just in time to end the quick affair. Ms. Bosse had to be off to the Beverly Hills City Council Study Session and back to work.

Visionary Women is published by the prestigious Assouline Publishing.
