(CNS) – Thousands of fans flocked to the site of the old Tower Records store on Sunset Boulevard today to see Elton John perform a free concert.

The Rocket Man was joined at one point by Lady Gaga for a performance of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me,” TMZ.com reported.

John announced the show — which was also streamed live on AOL.com — last night and again this morning on his official Twitter account.

The 68-year-old pop star released his latest album earlier this month, titled “Wonderful Crazy Night.”

John will host his annual Oscars viewing party tomorrow night at West Hollywood Park, while Lady Gaga is scheduled to perform at the Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

I wish all you Johnny come latelies would stay out of the way of people who grew up in this area way before most of you interlopers came here. To pick on guys like Lyn Konheim is a complete joke and only make those who do look like complete idiots. I have known all of these men for many years and they wouldn’t do anything that would compromise their reputations. I was not asked to write this I am just very upset when I see a complete misuse of time being aimed at only good people. The world is already a screwed up place don’t contribute more to it in Bev.
