The Willows Community School Honored For Dedication to Foster Youth and Families

The L.A. County Board of Supervisors has awarded The Willows Community School a commendation for hosting the Foster Care Counts “Foster Mother’s Day” and partnering with the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services to support foster youth and parents.
Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, accompanied by resident and Foster Care Counts Founder Jeanne Kriser Pritzker, presented the award to The Willows Head of School Lisa Rosenstein during the Sept. 29 supervisors meeting.
The commendation recognized the school as a model community partner for welcoming the Foster Mother’s Day event onto its campus since 2014. The presentation also recognized the commitment and efforts of The Willows Community School and its representatives to support foster youth and families and to partner with the L..A. County Department of Children and Family Services.
“We are tremendously grateful to Jeanne Pritzker and the entire Foster Care Counts organization for giving us this opportunity to serve such a vital organization,” says Rosenstein. “Community is part of our name, and we are dedicated to helping the children and families of Los Angeles. We thank the Board of Supervisors for this recognition of our commitment to Los Angeles.”
Nonprofit Foster Care Counts helps foster youth get the education and resources they need to become independent young adults. The organization aims to improve the lives of children and teens in foster care, those transitioning out of the foster system, as well as support families that offer their homes to foster youth.
The annual Foster Mother’s Day is a celebration for hundreds of foster families complete with food, entertainment, a clothing boutique and more.
The Willows Community School in Culver City is a developmental kindergarten through eighth grade independent school enrolling 463 students annually. The Willows’ (www.thewillows.org) academic program integrates technology and the arts into the classroom.
