Friars Charitable Foundation Honored By South Central LAMP As First Institutional Honoree

Quoting Nelson Mandela who said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world,” Marilyn Stambler, president of the Friars Charitable Foundation accepted the 2017 Institutional Honoree Award from South Central LAMP (Los Angeles Ministry Project) in a ceremony last month.

SC-Lamp, addresses the immediate and pressing educational needs of women and their families with preschool programs coupled with strong parenting classes and sessions and support.

The funding focus of the foundation, Stambler said, is providing essential support for community programs that have an immediate and sustainable impact that reflect the Friars strong conviction in building strong community members through education and mentoring.

Honored as the 2017 Person of the Year was Sister Yolanda Vega, one of the founders of SC-LAMP, who began working with immigrant families and women in the 1990’s recognizing the need to empower women and give them tools essential for self-esteem, self-confidence to better the lives of their children and families. 

In addition to the SC-Lamp community, in attendance were many friends and partners of the Friars Charitable Foundation.
