LADWP’s Mystery Halloween Outage Spooks West L.A. Residents

Confusion over the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power’s alert of a Halloween power outage has some Courier readers in West Los Angeles feeling spooked.
Readers in West L.A. report to us having received a notice at their homes of scheduled power outage for Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“LADWP crews will be working in your area to make necessary repairs or upgrades to the electrical infrastructure resulting in an outage of your electrical service…” the paper notice reads.
One big problem – callers to LADWP quickly found that the number listed on the notice delivered to homes didn’t actually work. LADWP asked residents with any questions or concerns to call 310-524-8411, a number that was not in service.
After doing some digging, we found that the correct number to call for any questions or concerns is actually 310-524-8441.
The representative who answered at the correct number told the Courier’s reporter that the outage could be over as soon as 11 a.m. Tuesday, although they were unable to confirm anything.
LADWP workers began receiving raises this month that were approved in July by the City of Los Angeles. Individual wages for LADWP employees are spiking between 13.2 percent and 22.3 percent over the next five years, depending on job title.
It’s unknown whose job it is to publish a correct, working phone number for concerned residents.
