Jumanji Reboot Tops Star Wars For Weekend Box Office Victory

After two weeks in second place, “Jumanji’: Welcome To The Jungle” ascended to first place Sunday at the domestic box offices.

The Sony sequel was on track to sell $36 million in tickets in the United States and Canada this weekend, according to studio projections gathered by industry analysts at comScore. It has amassed $244.4 million in North American sales over three weeks.

“Insidious: The Last Key” opened in second place, another sequel in the chain of parapsychology churners from Universal. It was estimated to gross $29.3 million this weekend.

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” dropped to third place, after three weeks as number one. It was estimated to bring in $23.6 million over the weekend, with a running domestic total of $572.5 million.

Rounding out the 10 best-selling films in the United States and Canada this weekend, as estimated by the studios and collated by comScore, were “The Greatest Showman” ($13.8 million), “Pitch Perfect 3” ($10.2 million), “Ferdinand” ($7.7 million), “Molly’s Game” ($7 million), “Darkest Hour” ($6.4 million),  “Coco” ($5.5 million) and  “All the Money In the World” ($3.4 million).
