Every week, the Courier tries to highlight a few of the many hundreds of animals that find themselves in the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter, located at 11361 West Pico Blvd., LA, CA 90064. You can visit their website at to see all the beautiful pets awaiting adoption.

The New Hope Program was implemented to eliminate obstacles that might prevent saving the lives of the animals most at risk of euthanasia due to space or treatable conditions. These animals are placed on the New Hope Alert list, which waives all adoption and microchips fees for our New Hope Partners. The shelter partner with private nonprofit organizations that raise money to carry out their mission to save the lives of our most vulnerable animals. New Hope Partners are not limited to selecting animals only from the New Hope Alert.

The shelter also has a Foster Program.  Volunteers may foster animals awaiting their permanent homes, which is a great way to find out if you are ready for a permanent pet, or to help a pet in need on a temporary basis.

There are also many opportunities to donate, including bequests and Kennel Sponsorship. There is always a wish list that includes a lot of everyday items that make a big difference and cost nothing to donate to the shelters, such as:

  • Linens – Towels and blankets and sheets
  • Newspapers

  • ceramic crocks
