When Kalman Aron first started drawing at age three in his Latvian hometown of Riga, he never dreamed that his particular art skill would enable him to survive another nine decades in a very hectic life.

The longtime Beverly Hills resident died Feb. 24 at 93 but not before surviving seven Nazi death camps in Poland, Germany and Czechoslovakia, primarily by his ability of doing sketches for soldiers and guards there in exchange for food, blankets and protection.
