State Supreme Court Denies Christiansen’s Review Petition

The California Supreme Court took just over a month to deny a Petition for Review brought by Strategic Concepts LLC on June 18, making the decision on Wednesday to uphold the latest judicial finding that Government Code Section 1090 does apply to independent contractors.

The company, which was founded by former Beverly Hills Unified School District facilties chief Karen Christiansen, who used her position as a consultant with the school district to enter into a sole source contract with her company, was owed in excess of $23 million by the school district until the appellate court’s May 10th ruling reversing the 2015 trial court decision that found BHUSD to be liable for having fired Christiansen after she used her position with the district to contract with Strategic Concepts
