In Northern California, the Camp Fire and the Butte Fire have claimed multiple lives.

NBC4 LA is reporting that five people were found dead in burned vehicles in the 70,000-acre Camp Fire in Northern California.

(AFP) Emergency authorities said Friday lives had been lost in a massive wildfire raging in northern California, adding that the number of victims wasn’t yet known.

“We know there have been injuries and we know there has been loss of lives,” the director of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services said in a press conference streamed live on Facebook.

He said authorities would share the extent of the disaster as they “get a better handle on the number of fatalities and people impacted” by the “Camp Fire” which has scorched more than 20,000 acres (8,093 hectares) around the town of Paradise.
