Civil unrest over the killing of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police has spread across the country in the last few days. This afternoon, it reached Beverly Hills. Thousands of protestors entered the City, after clashes took place in the Fairfax District that included setting police cars ablaze. In Beverly Hills, the City Council held an Emergency Meeting this morning, and later closed Rodeo Drive to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The protestors marched along City streets, chanting “Say his name, George Floyd” and “Prosecute Killer Cops.” A large crowd gathered in front of the Beverly Hills Police Department and City Hall, where the Courier observed protestors graffiti a number of Civic Center structures.
Beverly Hills has imposed a curfew from 8 p.m. May 30 through 5:30 a.m. May 31.
This is a developing story that will be updated as additional details emerge.
